Don't Miss Hamlyn

Opening Feb 13th, running through March 8th, Fells Point Corner Theatre presents "Hamlyn" by Juan Mayorga, one of Spain's best playwrights. "To listen to a child is the most difficult thing in the world." Constructed around the Robert Browning poem "The Pied Piper", Hamlyn is a penetrating play that depicts the vulnerability of children that are born into poverty. Don't miss this Baltimore premiere, directed by Barry Feinstein. "Juan Mayogra's Hamlyn is a play about language and power; the slippery ambiguity of language; the sorry manipulation of meaning." Mayorga is one of Spain's foremost playwrights: the original Spanish version was first staged in Madrid in 2005 to much critical acclaim. Hamlyn is a battle of voice: the voice of the law, the Orwellian state, the social psychologist, the individual, the politically powerful, the poor...and the voice of journalism that is often literature rather than fact. Which voice is true, and do we have a responsibility to find the truth?
