Auditions for August Wilson’s Jitney

All roles are open, non-union, stipend of $200, with additional compensation for extensions.

Run of Show: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays November 11 - December 13

Pay-What-You-Can Preview on November 10

Fridays and Saturday shows at 8:00 pm with a 7:00pm call time

Sunday Shows  at 2:00 pm with a 1pm call time

 

This show contract includes two potential extensions - one that adds Thursday performances throughout the original run dates and one that adds an additional week extension - Thursday - Sunday, December 17 - 20. Each additional extension will include additional compensation which will be outlined in an offer of a role.

 

To be considered eligible actors must be available for all show dates, including potential extension dates and and for all tech and dress rehearsals during the week prior to opening.
 

The Play:

Produced in Partnership with the Baltimore August Wilson Celebration, FPCT is proud to present the seventh play in August Wilson's extraordinary American Century Cycle.

In the Hill District of Pittsburgh in 1970, a group of Black men struggle to make a living as drivers for a makeshift taxi company. Owner Jim Becker’s son, Clarence, returns from prison just as the cab company faces a critical juncture. Deep animosities and long-held grudges come to the surface, jeopardizing the prospects for the drivers, who include alcoholic Fielding, gossipy, comical Turnbo, and earnest, decent Youngblood.

While Jitney falls seventh chronologically in the American Century Cycle, it was the first play of the series to be written and produced.

 

Characters:

All roles call for actors who identify as Black or African-American 

 

FPCT enthusiastically invites performers of all genders to audition with the understanding that roles must be cast and portrayed in accordance with the licensing agreement and stipulations of the script.

 

BECKER (male, 60s)  well respected who runs the jitney station. 

 

TURNBO (male 50s) Jitney driver who is always interested in the business of others 

 

YOUNGBLOOD (male Mid-late 20s) Jitney driver and Vietnam vet

 

FIELDING (male 50s) Jitney driver and former tailor. Has a dependency on alcohol 

 

DOUB (male 50-60s) Longtime jitney driver and Korean war veteran 

 

SHEALY (male, Any age) Number stalker who often uses the Jitney station as his base 

 

BOOSTER (male 40s) Becker’s son; recently released from prison

 

RENA (female 20s) Youngblood’s girlfriend and mother to their young son

 

PHILMORE (male any age) local hotel doorman, a reoccurring jitney passenger 

 

 

All FPCT collaborators are expected to agree to and conduct themselves in accordance with our Code of Conduct Policies for the safety of all. These policies will be made available to actors along with their contract should any roles be offered.
