Service Description

Dissecting the Monologue...Before the Audition At some point, every performer has had to grapple with the often overwhelming task of selecting and preparing a monologue for an audition. Most of us regard this process as a necessary evil in order to pursue work. It can be perplexing and intimidating. Success is never guaranteed, regardless of talent, BUT- By making firm, clear decisions with your monologue, you can enter the audition confident that you have done your homework and have a piece that showcases your abilities. By focusing on your work, you can deflect the distractions that are part and parcel of the audition process. The purpose of this workshop is to break down your chosen monologue into specific points of intention, tactic(s) used, and delivery. Components of the workshop: Pinpointing the character's perspective (how they perceive the world around them) Exploring the character's relationship to whom he or she is speaking Incorporating the character's place in relation to the space Establishing a firm, clear, and specific objective (what is it that the character wants?) A plan of action (how does the character go about attaining his/her objective?) These two, two-hour workshops will be limited to no more than ten participants so that everyone has a chance to perform, receive and integrate feedback, and perform again. Each attendee is responsible for bringing their own monologue (preferably memorized).
