Education
At FPCT we are starting a new education program to infuse our theater with more young talent and audience members. Through this program, young people will be able to take advantage of live theater in a unique space as they develop their skills in the theater. The best way for students to grow in the theater is to be immersed in it: whether it's performing, watching, attending workshops, or working backstage. We encourage students to be involved in the following ways and also welcome them to audition for our shows or take advantage of the number of volunteer opportunities we offer at FPCT. All of these opportunities are available to school groups or to individual students.
FPCT Performances
Bring your students to our performances. This is an inexpensive way to get students to experience live theater by adult actors who share in their passion for the theater and have made theater a part of their lives in a non-professional way. Through our performances and discussions afterward, students will learn how involvement in the theater is a life-enriching hobby that can continue after high school and college, whether its on-stage, back-stage, directing, producing, or the many other ways that our volunteers are involved. Our performances for high school students include:
- Discounted tickets for students, teachers, and families on Friday nights or Sunday matinees.
- 2 complimentary teacher tickets with the purchase of 10 or more tickets.
- A pre-show study guide complete with history about the play, playwright, and questions to think about before viewing.
- Discussion after the show with actors and others involved with the production.
- A flyer to advertise the event and a sign-up sheet
- On-line ticketing that lets you manage your reservation and print your tickets.
Fall/Spring Showcase
In this unique opportunity, high schools will prepare and send two scenes to showcase to other Baltimore area students. Students can work on these scenes independently, in class, or in drama club. Scenes can come from any play, but should not be original scenes. We encourage you to put several scenes together and hold your own “competition” to determine the scenes to go to the showcase.
- The performance for the Fall Showcase will be Friday, October 29 and held in our upstairs, Sokal Theatre
- Deadline to sign up for scenes is October 15
- Scenes should be no longer than 7 minutes
- Tickets will be $5 for any non-performing student or family member, and free for all performers and teachers
- There will be one rehearsal for ALL scenes on Thursday, October 28
- The set for the performance will a bare stage with a table and 4 chairs
10 X 10.... The Student Version
This season, FPCT is featuring an original 10-minute play festival. In the spirit of the festival, we are having a student version. Students will write, rehearse, and perform in their own original 10 minute (or less) plays or skits. Similarly to our fall/spring showcases, we encourage schools to do this on their own and then send the best to us. More information on script guidelines will be coming soon.
Monologue Workshop
In this workshop, focusing on preparing students for auditions they will face in their theatrical careers, local directors (minimum of 3), will watch and give feedback on a 2 minute monologue. Students will also have the opportunity to observe other student performers. At the end of the workshop, students will be given written feedback from the directors to use to help shape their auditions. The local directors will also share advice about auditioning and monologue performance.
