FPCT Spotlight - June 26, 2011
Yagmur Muftuoglu
What are your thoughts on The Sculptress from an actor's point of view?
Yagmur: I found The Sculptress to be a true piece of art itself - it is dynamic, beautifully written, and very honestly moves the human soul. There are also a lot of incredible moments written into the dialogue, and these are both challenging and exciting to me as an actor.
What is fun and what is challenging about your role? Are you anything like your character?
Yagmur: I love playing the part of Remedios Varo ("Remi"). Based on what I have read, she is a fascinating woman, and I think I've learned a lot about life just from getting to better understand her. I also believe that I think in a manner very similar to that of Remi, although I suppose one can never know for certain.
What has it been like working with the director, Juliana?
Yagmur: It has been incredible. Juliana empowers actors with her direction and maintains a very charming balance of fun and work during the rehearsal process. She is truly one of the best directors with whom I have worked thus far!
What else do you do, aside from acting?
Yagmur: I am a college student/scientist by day. When I come to rehearsal looking a little disheveled, everyone knows it's been an interesting day in lab.
What keeps you coming back to the stage?
Yagmur: For me, it is the thrill of performing, the possibility of inspiring something in someone else, and the greater richness in life that I cherish as an actor.
Any good stories from the rehearsal process?
Yagmur: Oh, yes! But there are too many to write out here... Come see the show and catch us afterward to find out!
