FPCT Spotlight - March 24, 2011
Todd Krickler
What drew you to this role?
Todd: Sherri showed me the script for this when we were rehearsing A Streetcar Named Desire, and I absolutely loved it. I knew I wanted to be a part of it instantly, and fortunately, she let me.
What has been fun about this production?
Todd: The best part of this show for me is that it's sort of a multi-show reunion. I've worked with most of this cast on one or more productions over the last few years, so it's nice to have that familiarity already built in. As for the cast members I've met for the first time, it's really been a joy to get to know them and see what they bring to the show.
Are you anything like your character, Betterton?
Todd: Betterton loves to perform, and that's definitely something with which I can identify.
What are the challenges of working on a period piece?
Todd: I don't think there's anything particularly more challenging for me as an actor. You just try and find the truth in the part, as in any role. The real challenge in a show like this is for the poor soul who has to track down costumes.
What keeps you coming back to the stage?
Todd: The chance to work with talented, fun people, the opportunity to escape into someone else's world for a few hours a day, and the chance to pretend like we did when we were kids.
What else do you do when you aren't acting?
Todd: I produce the 6 AM news over at WBAL-TV, so while most people go home after rehearsal, I go to work.
What are your top three favorite movies of all time?
Todd: While I love plenty of classics, I've got to go with Jaws, Star Trek II, andThe Empire Strikes Back-- will watch them any time, anywhere.
Who has been your acting inspiration?
Todd: Don't know about inspirations (that sounds way too formal for me), but I love watching actors like Carey Grant, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Liam Neeson, and Christian Bale.
What is your dream role?
Todd: For musicals--"Javert" in Les Mis. As for a play, anything by Neil LaBute
What would we be surprised to know about you?
Todd: I love to do vocal impressions, and am a karaoke mimic.
What is on the horizon?
Todd: After three consecutive shows, I'm looking forward to spending some time at home, and a nice long rest.
