Stefan Aleksander
How did you get involved with The Sculptress?
Stefan: Juliana, with whom I had worked before on two shows, recommended me to the playwright, who chose me to play the role of Paul Claudel.
What are your thoughts on The Sculptress from an actor's point of view?
Stefan: Paul Claudel is a rich character with highly dramatic scenes juxtaposed with small, intimate moments punctuated by humor. This play has everything.
Why do you think people should come and see The Sculptress?
Stefan: This is a compelling and exciting story from a first-time, local playwright with a very talented cast and crew!
Are you anything like your character, Paul Claudel?
Stefan: Playing such a high-level diplomat who was also a great writer is about as far away from my personal experience in real life as I could get. On the other hand, like Paul, I speak French and my father was a Polish diplomat with the Polish embassy in Washington, DC from 1941 - 1945. Additionally, I went to a French school in Washington, DC for four years, where most of the kids were children of diplomatic personnel.
What has it been like working with the director, Juliana?
Stefan: This is my sixth time working with Juliana as a director, including Bushwa, Dracula: A Family Musical, and three readings of The Sculptress. She is super-organized and super-fun to work with!
What are some favorite roles you have had in the past?
Stefan: My favorite roles include Daddy Warbucks in Annie at the Alden Theatre in McLean, VA in 2000 and Jacob Yoder in the movie For Richer or Poorer.
Who is your inspiration?
Stefan: My inspiration is Charlton Heston, because he became my childhood hero when I saw The Ten Commandments at the age of six.
