Christine Macready - Playwright
"The Hero"
Top 10 Things to know about me...
- I have acted in over 50 plays, directed five, written seven, but my favorite thing in theater is writing.
- I met a director at The Montgomery Theater Project, Thomas Quinn, who encouraged me to keep writing. After seeing him work I saw that I have no talent for directing. Every actor in every play has lines that they love to say. I keep that in mind every time I write a line. I love the life of a writer. The old adage is true, find out what you love to do and make it your job.
- Besides “The Hero”, I have had three other plays produced, Seven-Eleven at Three, Paperback Writer, and Sensitivity all performed in Skippack PA. I directed them, which is why nobody’s ever heard of them, and I will never do that again. This is why I was excited about 10 x10. I couldn’t wait to see what a director, who did not know me personally, would do with the story.
- I just finished my latest play, Purple Kangaroos. I have started my next play, Powdered Sugar Doughnuts and the Road to Morocco.
- My stage play Demons earned a staged reading from the Baltimore Playwrights Festival in 2008. That reading made me realize that the story would make a better screenplay, so I converted it and am looking for a venue.
- I started writing full-time two years ago after working for a fortune 500 company for a long time.
- I have a degree in elementary education from Temple University, but I never met Bill Cosby. I taught first grade for one year.
- I wrote a script for a film to raise awareness for women’s rights in Africa, where I spent 15 days in a dirt-poor orphanage interviewing people.
- My favorite fiction authors are Laura K. Hamilton, John Irving, Sue Grafton, Ann Rice, Barbra Kingsolver, Jodi Picoult, and Davis Sedaris. My favorite playwrights are Neil Simon, Yasmina Reza, Tennessee Williams, Tom Stoppard and, Beth Henley.
- I am married without children by design.
