Top 10 Things to know about me ...
- I first started writing creatively in the fifth grade, when I penned in my English journal the epic short story, "A Tale of Two Kitties".
- I followed this story with two others, "The Truth About Where Dick Tracy Came From" and "MegaKid," both essentially excuses to make fun of my friends, before setting aside writing for a new career path: professional baseball player.
- At the age of eleven, I saw Les Miserables at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre and fell instantly in love with performing.
- Over the next half-decade, I alienated half my classmates by singing show tunes nonstop and with less than perfect pitch.
- The writing bug returned after reading Crime and Punishment in 10th-grade English class and deciding to turn it into a screenplay.
- Two of the most formative classes I've taken were at Drew University, where I majored in English and philosophy: the first was Introduction to Playwriting, where I learned that writing is as much practical craft as mysterious art; the second was a poetry writing workshop, where I realized the primacy of concrete language over vagaries.
- One of the most formative experiences of my life was driving Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles, where I lived for slightly less than a year; if I could do nothing else but make that drive, I'd seriously consider it.
- Every time the Ravens lose to the Steelers, I swear I'll never watch another football game. If the NFL actually cancels the 2011 season, I just might follow through.
- I have been blessed in my life to know a succession of amazing cats. (I probably shouldn't show them my first short story.)
- I have been even more blessed to know a succession of amazing people: Mom, Dad, Ryane, Grandma, Doug, Sarah ... I love you more than words can say.
